Adanacs Sweep Islanders; Win 7th Title in a Row

The Delta Islanders headed into tonight’s game down 3-0 in the best-of-7 series against the Coquitlam Adanacs and the last thing the Islanders wanted was to get sweep, especially at home.

It didn’t look good for the Islanders in the first half of the first period as the Adanacs got off to a 3-0 lead with goals scored by Chase McIntyre, EvanWortley and Chris Cloutier.

The Islanders did score two goals within two minutes to make it a 3-2 game, but Cloutier scored with 4:47 remaining to make it 4-2 Adanacs at the end of the first period.

Just like in game 3, the flood gates opened in the second period, but this time, the Islanders were able to somewhat keep up with the Adanacs.

There was a lot of back and forth early on in the second period as DannySpagnuolo scored early to make it a one-goal game, but then the Adanacs popped in two, both scored by Wortley, to make it 6-3 Adanacs.

Again, both teams exchanged goals throughout the period and by the midway point of the game, it was 8-6 Adanacs. The Adanacs extended their lead before the period ended as ColeShafer and Cloutier scored on the powerplay and shorthanded respectively, making it 10-6 Adanacs at the end of the second period.

To really no surprise, which is unfortunate, the third period saw the Adanacs take complete control of the game and a lot, I mean, a lot of rough stuff go down.

Just before the halfway point of the third period, the Islanders seemed to have packed it all in as the Adanacs took a commanding 13-7 lead and the rough stuff ensued. Jean-Luc Chetner and JavierTudela both got ejected for fighting with 11:58 remaining in the game.

With 3:16 remaining in the game, the Adanacs were leading 16-8 and the game unfortunately had to end with a lot more fighting. Islanders’ Mitch Winter, Shawn Richardson and EvanMessenger partnered up with Michael Messenger, Ryan Ishikawa and KeeganRittinger to drop the gloves at the 1:20 and 15-second mark of the game, but at the end of it all, the fights didn’t matter as the Adanacs swept the Islanders, winning their 7 th title in a row.
