Adanacs One Win Away From Finals

Down 1-0 in the series, the Salmonbellies looked to get on even terms with the Coquitlam Adanacs when they faced off at Queens Park on Saturday afternoon.

There was a lot of back and forth in the first period. Whenever the Adanacs scored, the ‘Bellies scored shortly after. The Adanacs opened the scoring 40 seconds in with a goal by TylerPace, but JordanMcKenzie tied it up a minute later to make it 1-1.

GordiePhillips made it 2-1 ‘Bellies a minute later, but again, the game was all squared up two minutes later when ChaseMcIntyre scored.

The first penalty of the game came close to the halfway point, as TaylorStuart received 2 minutes for holding and the Salmonbellies made sure to capitalize as JeremyBosher scored 9 seconds into the powerplay to give the ‘Bellies a 3-2 lead.

With 7 minutes to go in the first period, McIntyre scored his second of the game to even the game up and then with under 2 minutes to go, Jean-Luc Chetner gave the Adanacs their third lead of the game.

However, 16 seconds later, BrandonClelland evened it all up again as the two teams headed into the locker rooms at 4-4.

As to no surprise, the Adanacs always find a way to take control of the game. It could be in any period, but there’s always a stretch in one period where they distance themselves from the other team and that happened after the mid-way point.

The ‘Bellies got off to a great start in the second period when  JoshByrne popped in two, one shorthanded and one even strength to give the ‘Bellies a 6-4 lead.

Unfortunately, the lead did not last long and the Adanacs went into full control mode. BrettKujala cut the ‘Bellies lead to one just before the halfway point of the game, but within 4 minutes, the game quickly became 9-6 Adanacs as they got goals from McIntyre, ChrisCloutier and EvanWortley .

Salmonbellies’ DaneSorensen made it 9-7, but before the period ended, the Adanacs regained their 3-goal lead with a goal by ColeShafer making it 10-7 at the end of the second period.

It’s always a tough battle when you take on the Adanacs and while it wasn’t the exact same third period from game 1, it was pretty close. The ‘Bellies simply did not have enough gas in the tank, while the Adanacs could continue to pressure.

The Salmonbellies cut into the Adanacs lead 3 minutes into the third period to make it 10-8, but when Chetner scored 4 minutes later, one more goal deep into the period, would basically seal the victory and it came in the worst way. With 7:14 remaining, Cloutier scored shorthanded to make it 12-8 Adanacs.

The ‘Bellies did score on that powerplay, but they just couldn’t deliver the rest of the way as the Adanacs popped in 2 more goals before the game ended, giving them game 2, 14-9.
