Adanacs One Win Away From 7th Title in a Row

After a day off, the Delta Islanders and Coquitlam Adanacs faced off on Monday night at the Coquitlam Sports Centre. The Islanders, down 2-0 in the best-of-7 series, were looking to get the ball rolling and to get some luck on their side tonight, but it’s no easy task when you’re facing the Adanacs.

The Islanders got off to a quick start in the first period when ChaseFraser scored 1:01 into the period.

The lead did not last long as playoff point and goal leader ChrisCloutier scored shorthanded just over two minutes later and Cloutier was able to get on the scoring sheet again when he scored at about the halfway point of the period on the powerplay to make it 2-1 Adanacs.

Another hot player in the playoffs is ColeShafer and he continued the streak late in the first period where he scored two goals to make it 4-1 at the end of the period.

It looks like no pep talk at intermission could save these floodgates. The second period really showed how good the Adanacs can be and how they can really drop you to the ground.

Adanacs’ TylerPace scored shorthanded just over two minutes into the second period, but Fraser was able to score on the powerplay to make it a 5-2 game.

However, it was roughly the same culprits who can really take control of a game. Cloutier scored his hat trick less than a minute after Fraser scored and the goals continued to pour in. Shafer, MichaelMessenger , Cloutier and Pace were in on the next seven goals, most coming before there was even 5 minutes left in the period as the Adanacs had a commanding 13-2 lead at the end of the second period.

As most games that get out of hand, the third period was a period where maybe it was a little entertaining, but it always reaches a point where you think to yourself why these guys continue to go at it when the game is practically over. Of course I know why, but when you’re down 3-0 in the series, 1 win away from elimination, what kind of message are you trying to send?

The Islanders and Adanacs each scored before a fight ensued at 16:57 and then they each scored again before TaylorStuart and Fraser got into it at 10:31.

The Adanacs took a 17-4 lead and needless to say, Islanders’ goaltender MattKeith wasn’t too pleased with the 17 th goal and things got a little nasty as he received an unsportsmanlike call. It wasn’t his last, however. He received two more unsportsmanlike calls at 5:59 and he was ejected from the game, as the Adanacs went on to win 17-6.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Coquitlam - ChrisCloutier - 5 Goals, 6 Assists

2. Coquitlam - ColeShafer - 5 Goals, 3 Assists

3. Coquitlam - Tyler Pace - 3 Goals, 2 Assists

Down 3-0, it looks like the Islanders are down and out. The series had been relatively close, but after tonight’s 17-6 loss, it doesn’t look like the Islanders will be able to pull off a victory tomorrow at home.  Look for a lot of Adanacs fans to fill up the Ladner Leisure Centre to possibly see their team be crowned BC Junior A Champs again for the 7 th year in a row. Game 4 starts at 8:00PM.
